As a recipient of a BC Arts Council Scholarship, Mara Branscombe graduated from Maindance in
Vancouver
of 2004. Mara is a founding member of The
Tomorrow Collective whose most recent project includes commissioning choreographer Chick Snipper and sound designer Jesse Zubot. This new work premiers at Dancing on the Edge 2008 and is supported by the 2010 Olympic Arts Partners funding team. The Tomorrow Collective also produces BRIEF ENCOUNTERS, an ongoing interdisciplinary performance series in
Vancouver
. Mara has worked with
EDAM
, Donna Redlick Dance, David Pressault Danse, and has performed in venues such as: The Canada Dance Festival, The International Dance Festival, Dancing on the Edge, Pulse and Dances for a Small Stage. With the support of The Vancouver Foundation, Mara apprenticed with Crystal Pite of Kidd Pivot in 2005-06 on her Alcan Award Project titled "Lost Action". Since then she has worked with choreographer Susan Elliot in
Vancouver
and at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Mara has co-directed and performed in three independent films and has created two solo’s (At a Loss and Recollection) and a duet (Metaxu) in the last year. Mara is inspired to be both an interpreter of dance and a choreographer of dance for both stage and film.
